Denver’s noise laws have been updated for the first time since 2008, aiming to better balance the city’s growth with public health. The City Council approved the new changes on February 24, 2025, and took effect on February 27, 2025. Here’s what you need to know:

New Definition of Noise: Noise is now defined by specific sound limits, making it easier to enforce noise rules. You can file complaints without needing to explain how the noise affected you.

Trash Collection Hours: Waste services can start at 6 a.m. instead of 7 a.m. to keep up with the city’s growth. If your trash gets picked up before 6 a.m., you can report it by sending a video with the time.

Festival Noise Levels: Sound levels at public events can now go up to 85 dBA, and festivals on private property can do this for up to eight days a year. There must be a 30-day break between events that lasts more than two days.

Construction Noise Restrictions: Construction noise that can be heard is banned from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends. You can report noise violations with a time-stamped video.

Compression Engine Brakes: These loud brakes are now banned in the city.

How to Report Noise: Call 3-1-1 or use the city’s Online Services Hub to file a noise complaint. For trash or construction noise, send a video with the time.

The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment manages the noise ordinance and spearheaded the updates.
