More Than a Conqueror: Celebrating Strength, Resilience, and Community
Summary
“More Than a Conqueror” is a genuinely heartwarming event that honors individuals who overcome significant challenges, particularly those with disabilities, and the supportive people who stand by them. The story centers around Tiffany Curry, the daughter of Pastors Kevin and Lynne Rawlins, who was born with Down Syndrome.
Tiffany’s resilience, loving spirit, and ability to face challenges with courage have always inspired her family. Touched by Tiffany’s journey, Pastor Lynne was inspired to create the More Than a Conqueror celebration to honor her and others who show incredible strength.
Pastor Lynne realized that Tiffany’s story was one of many, and many children, teens, and adults struggle with various challenges in life. She wanted to create a space to recognize those individuals and celebrate those in their lives who go above and beyond to support them. And so, the More Than a Conqueror event was born, an annual celebration that allows honorees to be acknowledged for their achievements, perseverance, and talents. The event also provides a platform for these honorees to honor those in their “village”—those who have significantly impacted their lives.
The celebration, an inspiring tradition, invites honorees to showcase their abilities through music, dance, poetry, or public speaking. Tiffany, for example, is known for her powerful praise dance performances that captivate audiences with her heartfelt spirit and joy.
The 2024 More Than a Conqueror celebration was held on November 15, 2024, and it honored four extraordinary individuals: Solomon Mitchell, who shared an original music composition; Dane Anthony Eison, whose emotional rendition of the gospel song “I Made It” became an anthem of survival and strength; Rachel Zander, who delivered a moving tribute to the supporters in her life; and Doris Washington, who presented a prayerful and touching poem. Each honoree, in turn, took the opportunity to recognize those who had gone “Above and Beyond” to encourage and support them. The honorees’ supporters included Pastor Jeannie Mitchell, Pastor Lynne Rawlins, William Parson, Phyllis Davis, Johnny Davis, and Pastor Curtis Scott.
This year’s celebration featured special appearances, including 12-year-old Jeremiah Daniels, co-star of the award-winning Color Book, which recently won Best Narrative Feature at the 2024 Denver Film Festival. To close the program, Tiffany Curry performed a stirring praise dance that beautifully encapsulated the “More Than a Conqueror” spirit, leaving everyone with a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience we all have within us.
The More Than a Conqueror celebration, held on November 15, 2024, is a testament to the unwavering courage of those who face life’s obstacles and the loving community that supports them. It reminds us that, with love, faith, and determination, we can all rise above our challenges and be “More Than Conquerors.”
