Denver Mayor Mike Johnston will deliver his inaugural State of the City Address on July 22. Over the past 12 months, through collaborative efforts involving the city council, Mayor Johnston has allocated close to $200 million in city funds to address critical issues such as homelessness, immigration, and commercial real estate investments. The 2024 State of the City will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 22, at the Paramount Theater. It will be live-streamed on Denver8 and the City’s YouTube channel. As of June 19, All In Mile High (fka House 1000) has spent $156.3 million, which included $41.8 million in one-time costs and $14.5 million in recurring expenses.Being a sanctuary city, the cost for migrant arrivals has totaled $42 million; however, this does not include nearly $28 million for school and hospital expenses. An $88.5 million allocation has also been made to purchase the former headquarters of the Denver Post newspaper building. Two initiatives aimed at November voters are underway. Raising the City sales tax to nearly 10 percent will generate funds for affordable housing and operating costs at Denver Health Hospital. The address will showcase Mayor Johnston’s thoughts on the progress made during his first year in office and his strategies to ensure Denver’s safety, liveliness, and affordability in the coming year.Accessibility Language is available from DeafHHservices@denvergov.org or by calling 720-913-8487.
