Teach Plus, a nonprofit that helps teachers lead educational changes, has announced Dr. Jamita Horton as Executive Director of Teach Plus Colorado. In this role, Dr. Horton will lead programs that allow teachers to shape policies that support student success, such as preparing Colorado students for life after school. Before joining Teach Plus, Dr. Horton was the Executive Policy Officer at the Public Education & Business Coalition.

“Jamita’s experience as a teacher, leader, principal, and advocate makes her a perfect fit for this role,” said Kira Orange Jones, CEO of Teach Plus. “We’re excited for her leadership in Colorado to grow our work and partnerships.”

Dr. Horton has over a decade of experience as a teacher, principal, and education advocate. She worked as an Executive Policy Officer at the Public Education & Business Coalition, focusing on early childhood education. Dr. Horton has also been a kindergarten teacher, an assistant principal, and a Policy Fellow with Teach Plus. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Denver and degrees in International Studies, Women’s Studies, and Urban Education.
