Colorado’s 2024 general election, which took place Tuesday, November 5, 2024, saw no significant upsets or surprises. This consistency highlights the Democratic Party’s strong presence in the region, a vital aspect of the election.

Several ‘blue and blah’ campaign-style candidates returning to the US House of Representatives include Diana DeGette (CO-1), Joe Neguse (CO-2), Jason Crow (CO-6), Brittany Pettersen (CO-7), and possibly Yadira Caraveo (CO-8) in a race that remains too close to call. The re-emergence of familiar figures emphasizes the enduring presence and stability of the Democratic Party in the region.

The ‘red and raging’ candidates significantly impacted the State, and their wins are not to be overlooked. The victories of the infamous Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-4) and Rep.-elect Jeff Hurd (CO-3), who bested Adam Frisch and Rep.-elect Jeff Crank (CO-5 Colorado Springs), underscore the significance of their wins. Boebert succeeds the retiring Ken Buck. Hurd represents the district dumped by Boebert. And Crank will succeed the retiring Doug Lamborn.

In the State Senate election arena, Democrats Janet Buckner (District 29—Aurora) and James Coleman (District 33—Denver) are returning to the state Senate. State Senator-elect Mike Weissman (District 28—Aurora) won the seat held by termed-limited Rhonda Fields.

Returning to the State House of Representatives are Democrats Jennifer Bacon (District 7—Denver), Junie Joseph (District 10—Boulder), Regina English (District 17—Colorado Springs), Naquetta Ricks (District 40—Aurora), and Iman Jodeh (District 41—Aurora). Bacon easily defeated two other opponents.

Democratic State Rep.-Elect Lindsay Gilchrist and State Rep.-elect Michael Carter prevailed in their races.

Gilchrist will represent District—8 Denver. This is the seat formerly held by term-limited Leslie Herod.

Carter is the new representative for District 36— Aurora (Adams and Arapahoe counties). Carter is also the Vice President of the Aurora Public School Board of Education. Outgoing Rep. Mike Weissman is now the State Senator-elect for District 28.

State Rep. candidates Johnnie Wesley Johnson (District—5)  and Jesse Lashawn Parris (District—8) made an effort in their races despite being unsuccessful.

Outgoing term-limited State Senator and now Commisoner-elect Rhonda Fields secured a seat on Arapahoe County’s Board of County Commissioners District 5.

Also, in Arapahoe County, retired RTD operator Bernard Celestin lost the race to be the RTD District F Board representative to Kathleen Chandler.

Below are several of the unofficial results from the recent election:
